Treatment and Prevention

 

After symptoms start to show, it is almost impossible to treat the rabies virus, as it has reproduced over and over so many times in it's host cell. Despite this, rabies is completely preventable. If a person or animal gets their rabies vaccine consistently, the virus should not spread. Also, after being bitten by a rabid animal, cleaning out the wound with soap and water cleans the wound. Immediately after contact with the virus, getting a post-exposure shot at the doctors keeps the virus from affecting the body.
